Side Effects for Lap Band

There are also some side effects involved with Lap Band Surgery that potential patients need to discuss with their surgeon.

The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) reported that approximately 90 percent of the patients in a lap band study noted at least one of the following side effects: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, heartburn and slippage of the band. In addition to those findings, approximately 25 percent of the lap band participants had the band taken out as a result of such side effects or inadequate weight loss.

Along with the standard side effects of the majority of procedures, there are some specific to Lap Band Surgery.

Side effects that can occur directly related to the lap band system are nausea and vomiting, gastro esophageal reflux, stoma obstruction, esophageal dilation, constipation, diarrhea and dysphasia (difficulty being able to swallow).

The majority of people who have had Lap Band Surgery will tell others that the procedure was definitely worth it.
